Surprisingly, the club announced on Thursday that was close to sign Brazilian midfielder Juca, man that’s coming for free from FK Partizan. In the end, today the player is passing the medicals. Meanwhile, Tigres is asking for the loan of Omar Bravo.
All the papers were announcing on Thursday the eminent arrival of Juliano Roberto Antonello, Juca’ (29), a defensive midfielder that has performed for FK Partizan during the last two seasons. The announcement came through Depor Sport and was later confirmed by a club’s official (name no revealed) to the EFE news agency.
“The idea of Deportivo is to close the signing in a matter of hours, and we don’t discard the player will arrive to La Coruña in the next days.” The club’s official told to EFE on Thursday’s morning. “It’s a move that has the consent and the approval of the coach.” The source added. In the end things were accelerated and the player himself arrived to La Coruña during the night, it was informed he will pass the medicals on Friday and that he will sign a two-year deal, though there’s no official confirmation yet.
The Brazilian man gave an interview to Radio Galega just minutes after his arrival to the Galician city, he was explaining his situation, “Ten or fifteen days ago, my agent told me about the interest of Deportivo. It is a great team, ambitious, and I’m also ambitious. I’m glad to have this chance. I hope everything will be fine, that I will sign the contract and that I will help Deportivo on the next season.” Juca also described himself as a “very competitive player” that “likes to move the ball and organize the game.”
Juca has made almost his entire career in Brazil; he passed through six clubs in a matter of seven years (Internacional, Criciúma, Marília, Fluminense, Botafogo, Guarani and again Botafogo). Then in 2007, he made the jump to Europe and signed a two-year deal with FK Partizan (currently coached by ex-Depor Slavisa Jokanovic). At the Serbian club the Brazilian has played 59 official games (including two in Champions League) and has scored ten goals.
The website of Partizan describes him as an “Uncompromising fighter, someone who brought firmness and strength to Partizan midfield. Merciless shot, great movements off the ball and his football trickery often help him score, although he is primarily defensive-midfield player”
On the season 2008/2009, Juca only played in 18 of the 32 games disputed so far in the Serbian Superliga, this since he has spent the major part of the season suffering from different injuries. The Championship in Serbia ends on this weekend, just like la liga, and FK Partizan is already the champion. He won’t renew his contract and it’s expected that Juca will replace Canadian Julian De Guzmán at Depor.
After the news were released, Radio Onda Cero contacted Miroslav Djukic, former defender of Depor and person who was the coach of Partizan when Juca was signed, he gave his opinion about the midfielder, "We signed him through a collective decision. There was a report about him, a video. We decided to sign him, because I was asking for a midfielder with the capacity to move the ball with easy, an aggressive man. Also somebody that was capable to play fast, to see him moving the team. The true is that it was a full success. He was an example during the trainings, very serious. You can find two types of Brazilians: the ones very talented, but then fail to join the team after the holidays, and that aren’t so professionals. Then you have the example of Mauro Silva. In this case: professional and with quality. "
Djukic also said that he knows that Juca will succeed at Depor, “He’s a very complete midfielder. Very serious and hard worker, aggressive, he moves the ball well and has a very good shot. We’re talking about a very competitive player; I am convinced that he will triumph at Depor. He likes to join the attacks, is a happy player. He likes to be in contact with the ball and join the attacks. I needed a player for midfield and I had him and Moreira. To Juca I always told to stay in his position. I gave orders to always convert him into a defensive midfielder, playing behind the ball, being a support for everyone, because he knows to recover the ball and cover many areas. As I said, he is a very complete player. He was taking the free-kicks in his country. He knows how to pass the ball over the barrier. No matter he’s 29, I’m sure he’s prepared to compete."
